With a short turn around time comes a sense of urgency involving many dedicated people. On this occasion with circumstances as they were, we had to call in extra special favours for which the debts will have to be repaid.

Thanks must go to: Rory Taylor of SpeedTorque, his staff Landy and Brooksy, almost the entire Sheehan crew, Tim Adams and Trev, Dwayne Riley for the loan of his gear at the drop of a hat, Rob and Deb yet again (and again) and the Motorplex team for their persistance with us and their organisational skills. Once again thanks to all.

With a view to doing well after our recent test session, small problems quickly escalated into large ones. With the Chemical Warfare car going very hard to half track and losing a fuel line, the incrementals showed an easy 5.3 sec capability and the motor came up very clean.

The Tectaloy car, though going even faster to 330 ft, was suffering severe tyre shake, breaking everything from the fire bottle mounts to wheelie bars along the way.

Chemical Warfare was sent out for the 2nd pairing whilst welding repairs were taking place on Ricky's car. With small complications in the pit area, turn around time was very slow and did not give us a chance to start the car and do some final checks. With excessive clutch drag due to high idle rpm and maybe a fuel richening problem, the engine exploded at quarter track in a nasty fireball after a hard launch. We were not able to swap engines in time and elected to have Ricky pair up with Dobbo for the final pass.

Again with a lot of tyre shake, a determined pedalling effort finally saw the blower belt expire at about 800 ft.

Inspecting the damage

In our recent test session prior to our December 30 match race, we wanted to familiarize ourselves with the Tectaloy car and test an entirely new combination on the Chemical Warfare car, along with training some new crew.

We successfully completed 2 planned half passes, gaining good data whilst running respectable half track numbers, with limited carnage.

Stay tuned after Dec 30...
