Kwinana match race 15/03/08
March 15 could be best summed up as almost perfect and almost a disaster.
The first pairing saw a good even start but Rick's car put a cylinder out early, which doesn't do wonders for the engine balance, and broke the blower belt around half track.
Ash had his hands full with a cylinder out at around 330 ft, pushing him right and very close to the wall before lifting and coasting to a 5.60.
Round 2 was supposed to see all the bugs out of the system. Both cars were quick to the 330 ft mark but Nitro Freak dropped an intake valve (our first ever) which often leads to lifted blowers and fires. Luck was on our side as we avoided that, but as the cylinder was out it moved to the right and got the wall with the headers.
Ash felt the power go away and lifted, which was later tracked down to 4 broken blower studs and a pushed out gasket.
Round 3 and we were looking for a good result to send everyone home happy. An oil leak at the end of the burnout for Rick however would see Ash solo. Rocketing to 3.55 sec to half track was easily going to see the car into the 5.2 sec zone, but the blower belt departed at 3.6 seconds and he coasted to a 5.87.
A little more luck next time will redeem our pride - and stay tuned for a big announcement of up and coming events!
